Cage is especially admirable, in my opinion, in his unrelenting unconventionality. He faced criticism in both his public and private life, and never benefited from his endeavors in any real way. But, this did not deter him. He did not let the (loud) opinions of others change his mind, and music will never be the same as a result. There are very few of us who have the willpower to accomplish what he did.
